JEWELLERY CARE

How to care for your polymer clay jewellery

Although polymer clay is a strong and durable material, it still needs to be cared for properly, because it can be easily broken with inappropriate use and storage, especially if the design is delicate.

Polymer Clay is a porous material and can scrape easily, especially the light colours. We suggest using a damp cloth to wipe after every use. If you find there are marks that don’t come off, you can use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad and wipe carefully to remove the mark. However, do not do this on pieces which have gold leaf, as alcohol will affect the varnish which protects the leaf and may even remove it.

Do not wet polymer clay jewelry. Avoid showering or swimming while wearing your jewelry.

Avoid using chemicals, solvents, perfume, jewelry cleaners, or any aerosol products near the jewelry to preserve the vibrant colours. Contact with make-up may also stain your clay jewelry. So, be very careful when you wear your clay jewelry and you have your make-up on.

In case your jewelry gets dirty (e.g. by make-up), wipe with a soft, damp cloth. You may also use a cotton ear swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to wipe lightly on the surface of the jewelry–this does NOT apply to earrings that are hand painted, have gold leaf, or are coated with satin glaze or resin.

If your piece of jewelry is varnished, hand painted, has gold leaf or glitter, use a baby wipe to gently clean the surface of the jewelry.

When not in use, store polymer clay jewelry in a box or a separate compartment. Keep away from sharp objects to avoid scratching the surface. This will help with the preservation of each handmade piece.
